Highland Garden House B & B, 501 E. Highland Ave, Mount Vernon, WA 98273 (Skagit Valley/Skagit County/10 miles to La Conner) 
My mother and I went to Mt Vernon to view the Tulips. Dennis greeted us when we arrived. My mom was sick and he was very understanding and helpful. We stayed in the North Room, it was clean, had lots of local information and lots of books to read. We slept well. The bathroom was very clean and everything is very organized. Breakfast was made to order from a few selections and we had a great conversation with the other guests that were also staying with Dennis. I definitely recommend staying with Dennis!
Just completed a four day stay and it was wonderful! The north room is cozy, with lots of books and artwork, and a great view of the coastal mountains and distant city lights. Plus a huge walk-in closet! The bed is comfortable and both the room and bathroom were immaculately clean…as was the entire house. Dennis is a great host and takes much pride in the upkeep of his house and gardens. The whole experience was like a stay with friends in a great old house…good cooking, a friendly cat, and good conversation!

Not your typical B and B.
I say not your typical B&B but not in a derogatory way. It’s more of a communal setting with shared bathroom and kitchen. Dennis is a nice host but quite the talker…I kind of had to get things moving along for breakfast since we had to leave at a certain time. I loved his cat “Spanky”. I think it would be wise of Dennis to show that he has a cat on his web site for those with allergies. Luckily, my allergies to pets are minimal. All in all a good stay. We slept well until the trains started in the early morning. Clean home, good breakfast.
In our FAQ section we do advise that we do not take guests’ pets and that there is a cat in the house; there is even a photo of Spanky. I am really surprised by being referred to as a ‘talker.’ I think both my first and second left me because I was not very outgoing and communicative. Maybe this B and B adventure is really changing me! Dennis
